I have been so hard on cars lately but I should really refine my vitriolic aim and spew on this kind of ridiculous gas-guzzling monstrosity. SUV's are bad enough but it is this kind of truck that really gets my goat. It would be very interesting to get the numbers of these behemoths that are driven by individuals who are not involved in a line of work that actually needs this kind of massive armoured vehicle. I saw one today, even bigger than this, parked, swamping the very short driveway of a neighbour's townhouse. I know the guy who owns it, a likeable big fella but thick as a brick. He rarely if ever uses it to actually carry anything. It's his status symbol, his manhood, his ice-hockey-loving statement. Ads for this kind of beast are seamlessly woven into Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts; aggression, power, domination, growling noise, the whole dam-ram tough baloney that we are constantly subjected to. How the hell will we ever get people to look at climate change or even civic respect for each other when this kind of tank is reckoned to be urban transportation? All 3 of the big original North American car companies (Chrysler now owned by Fiat) have a full array of these monsters and it looks to me like a large percentage of the products are in the hands of macho eejits who use them for commuting and pleasure, not for work!
